Morocco
Hundreds of Berbers in Morocco have marched in front of the National Assembly in Rabat protesting the death of a student killed during clashes between Amazigh students and those from the Western Sahara.
Omar Khalek passed away a few days later after he was assaulted by students supporting the Polisario front.
According to his friends, he was a staunch supporter of Amazigh’s integrity.
Morocco occupies Western Sahara but the Polisario front is bent on establishing an independent Sahrawi Arab Republic.
Protesters brandished slogans and flags to protest Omar’s death.
“This protest has been organised in front of Morocco’s parliament to condemn the political assassination of
Omar Khaleq,” Mounie Kejji, an Amazigh militant told AFP.
His close friends described him as a respectful and highly educated person but equally shy.
